Year 10 Kayaking

The 3 Year 10 classes recently had their anual kayak trips through Hamilton. We had amazing weather, so there was plenty of flipping, bombing and sponging. Here's hoping we can get some of them rolling before the end of the year.

Here's a mash up of the 3 days.

Year 13's Finale

The 2013 Year 13's recently had their final OED trip.
In 4 years they've been on 24 trips, eaten 94 packets of bacon, slept in tents, cabins, lodges and dirt.
They've paddled rivers, climbed rocks, rode bikes and had close calls.

Their final trip was action packed with lots of biking, plenty of cramping and heaps of CURRY.

Here's their final vid

Year 10's @ Te Miro

3 days of greasy goodness at Te Miro Mountain Bike park. A last minute change of venue saw us change from Te Aroha (boring) to Te Miro (greasy).
Three separate days with the year 10's had plenty of sliding, crashing and jumping.

Here's how it panned out

One of the greats

We had it all, sunshine, rain, sleet, snow (lots), and WIND!

The year 11's recently embarked on our annual tramp to the Pouakai ranges off the north of Mt Taranaki (not Henry peak Josh Whitt).

The group were in good spirits especially when the snow began to puke down on day 2. Both nights in the huts saw us human traversing and there was also some humorous talk in the beds at night.

Here are some pictures of one of the best tramps from TAC so far.

Year 12 MTBing 2013

The year 12 OED classes combined powers and went on their annual biking mission.
This year we spent a day at the Redwoods in Rotorua, before a few of us went out to Craters of the moon for some night laps on coaster.
The second day (after a night of listening to Tyler talk crap) we went back to Craters for some laps up 60km hill.
Cam had plenty of crashes, Cassie was a little slow, Tyler jumped, Karl pedalled, and Jayden flexed.

Junior Climbing evening

Sorry the blog updates have been a little thin. Mr Oliver's been having different kinds of adventures, still including sleepless nights smelly children.

We recently had our first ever Junior Only rock evening. We had 40 students climbing in both the clip and climb area and on the rock climbing area. Most students climbed hard and most students also had plenty of fast food.

Heres a few pics of the night

(also keep your ear out for the Senior Oto rock evening)

The 1st Year 12 kayak trip

Sunshine! We recently had our 1st year 12 kayak trip on the Waikato and 2 days on the Mohaka River. The river was low but everyone still went hard and started looking like kayakers. Connor kept us entertained.

Here's a video of our trip

Year 13 Kayaking

5 days of kayaking took it out of them. We started off with a bang, running the slalom gorge on the Wairoa, due to starting on a Sunday. This gave a few of them big eyes but prepped them for the rest of the trip. Then 3 days surfing and playing at the Aniwhenua and finally a mini surf session at Newdicks beach.

Good bonding, good paddling, lots of sausages, and lots of CROQUET

Year 10 Climbing Day 2

CHILLIS!!

On Friday Mr Oliver's Year 10 class had their first Outdoor Ed trip out climbing at castle rock. They were introduced to the chilli system and hit the ground running (especially a couple of the girls). I think by the end of the year the classes language should have improved otherwise they won't have any taste buds left.

Aside from the chilli eating, the class climbed hard. Ellie, Mikayla and Sharnae working 18's taking fall after fall but getting back up there. Ryan doing the most climbs in the day (and in jeans). Young Farrelly how its done and it doesn't matter that he's short.

People definitely noticed that they were getting hot and bothered, but pushed through and stayed focussed.

Here's some snaps of the day. Looking forward to our next trip out.

First Year 9OEE Trip EVER!

On Wednesday we had our first ever Year 9 Outdoor Ed trip.
We went to Karapiro to have a wee High ropes experience, testing students fear of heights, teamwork, and trust.
Manaia, Kieran and William took a little encouragement to get up there, while the 2 smallest and the biggest charged around making small work of all of the challenges.
The multi-vine proved to much of a test for the dancing duo of Ridge and Simon.

Everyone seemed to have a great day, here's some pictures of our escapades
