Year 10 Climbing Day 2

CHILLIS!!

On Friday Mr Oliver's Year 10 class had their first Outdoor Ed trip out climbing at castle rock. They were introduced to the chilli system and hit the ground running (especially a couple of the girls). I think by the end of the year the classes language should have improved otherwise they won't have any taste buds left.

Aside from the chilli eating, the class climbed hard. Ellie, Mikayla and Sharnae working 18's taking fall after fall but getting back up there. Ryan doing the most climbs in the day (and in jeans). Young Farrelly how its done and it doesn't matter that he's short.

People definitely noticed that they were getting hot and bothered, but pushed through and stayed focussed.

Here's some snaps of the day. Looking forward to our next trip out.

First Year 9OEE Trip EVER!

On Wednesday we had our first ever Year 9 Outdoor Ed trip.
We went to Karapiro to have a wee High ropes experience, testing students fear of heights, teamwork, and trust.
Manaia, Kieran and William took a little encouragement to get up there, while the 2 smallest and the biggest charged around making small work of all of the challenges.
The multi-vine proved to much of a test for the dancing duo of Ridge and Simon.

Everyone seemed to have a great day, here's some pictures of our escapades

Year 10 Climbing Day 1

Our first trip of the year was one of Mr Leong's Year 10 classes climbing at Wharepapa Castle Rock.

The class was a mix of nervous and excited, with a couple of them taking a while to get off the ground (some barely did). Ramon and Trent took one for the team and set the bar nice and low (about 4 metres), while Keegan, James, Rebecca and Jake charged all day. The four chargers climbed big 23m climbs and also the hardest climbs of the day.

There was plenty of chilli eating, although we discovered that the dried chilli's weren't very hot, so back to the drawing board.

Here's a few shots of how they got on

"Im sure I climbed an 18"

"ummmm"

"chilli?"

"I got you brother"
Am I at the top?

Welcome back to 2013

Hopefully after a summer filled with exciting adventures TAC Outdoor Ed classes are back and ready to hit the ground running in 2013.

Over the summer one of our students took out the Junior National Extreme Race title for Whitewater kayaking. An ex student started an Outdoor Recreation course in Rotorua, and a number of students were seen outdoors kayaking, Mountain biking and adventuring
